Caregiver for the elderly may seem like a fairly broad concept. Caregiver for the elderly may seem like a fairly broad concept? Caregiver for the elderly may seem like a fairly broad concept, what the person actually does, employed to take care of a senior.

Responsibilities of looking after the elderly

Of course, the primary responsibility of every babysitter is to look after the elderly. However, this can be interpreted differently. How it all looks in practice? If you plan to apply for the position of an elderly carer, then you need to know, that your duties will always be slightly different - depending on the mentee, his needs and family expectations.

As a carer, you must first of all care for the senior and support him in all areas, which require it. These are mainly activities, related to the daily functioning of an elderly person. Sometimes, however, the family also depends on running the house, preparing meals, making purchases or taking care of various matters on behalf of a senior, etc.. All these issues are settled before the start of cooperation.

If the mentee is a very sick person, he is usually visited by a nurse as well, who, for example, gives injections and watches over the healing process. The caregiver must therefore be in constant contact with the medical staff, and also with the relatives of the senior.

Not only care and maintenance

Work as a carer for the elderly it is not limited to routine tasks, such as: help in moving, dressing, which will also be your place of residence, giving a meal or feeding. An elderly person very often just needs company and conversation. Duties - which are undoubtedly pleasant - include walking around the area, watching TV together, reading magazines and books, listening to the confessions or memories of the senior. This is an aspect of the job, which you will not experience in any other profession. Even if it's hard sometimes, these moments spent in the company of the student / ward and his heartfelt smile of gratitude can reward a lot.

In what mode does the carer of the elderly work?

It all depends on the arrangements with the family and the needs of the senior himself. Sometimes the elderly require all-day care, otherwise, it is enough to keep company for a few hours. Some babysitters have several pupils under their wings at the same time, and the agreed schedule includes several visits a day. Others prefer the situation, which requires a whole day to be dedicated to one and the same person. The job of a babysitter may be shift work; in mode 8- or 24 hour clock.

It is impossible to present a single model system, because it all depends on the needs of a given senior, but also on the possibilities and preferences of the babysitter herself. Contrary to appearances, the work of a babysitter is flexible, because it allows you to cooperate in an optimal mode. Elderly people are a very diverse group, therefore, there is a need for incoming caregivers on the market of nursing and caring services, and round the clock.
